About the event

This Collage Workshop has been a very popular at my Studio as well as at the Art & Soul Retreat. I think folks are totally surprised how much they love creating multiple layers of acrylic paint along with a HUGE variety of Colorful & Vintage Collage Papers.

You will find that this is a very creative and freeing experience. Give it a try!!

  • I will start out demonstrate by adding an acrylic background using a palette knife or old credit card with my selected 3 or 4 color palettes.
  • Next I will add Collage paper that matches your chosen color palette. I use Dina Wakely’s Collage Paper.
  • After I have added the Colored Collage paper I like to add some neutral toned collage paper. Examples: Old books, old sewing patterned tissue, sheet music & and collage paper that I have found online.
  • My next step is to use Black & White to my Collage. We will be using multiple tissue designed paper

If you like you can bring in a Focal Point. It’s nice to leave an area on your Collage that is a block of color or collage. I often will drop in a

lady or Flower. It’s fun to use an image on tissue paper as well as your focal point. Tissue is translucent and you will see everything pop

through!I will start out demonstrating how to add decorative and vintage collage paper as well as magazine images to create our initial background. From there we will add more layers of color by applying acrylic paint and then move on to using stamps and stencils using Acrylic & Distressed Oxides. You will be introduced to a plethora of supplies and techniques! I will walk you through the entire process.

Next, we will bring in our focal point. I will demonstrate painting and stamping on tissue paper to create a transparent layer that you can place over your background creating a sense of depth to your collage painting. There will be a generous collection of magazines, vintage & collage papers to choose from as your focal point as well!

Everyone will leave with a finish Collage Painting on a cradled board ready for hanging.

Students of every experience level are welcome!
