HELPFUL TERMINOLOGY

Hand-building Description:

This term refers to several techniques of building with clay using only the hands and simple tools rather than a potter's wheel. Students will work with clay using a variety of hand building techniques, depending on the project you select.

 

Different techniques include: 
Soft clay right out of the bag constructing coil pots, pinch pot rattles, various sculptures etc.

Soft slab construction which includes:
Purses, collage plates, serving trays and bowl forms, functional vessels including water pitchers, creamer and sugar and cups as well as butter dishes and salt & pepper shakers etc.

Hard slab construction which includes:
Birdhouses, treasure boxes and much more.

WORKSHOPS:
(focusing on individual projects utilizing a variety of techniques & skills)
I will select particular workshops for the month and send out a newsletter announcing these workshop a month ahead of time. I will rotate different workshop projects each month. If there is a particular workshop you would like to see on the calendar let me know via the contact page and I will see what I can do.

SPECIAL EVENTS:
If you would like to schedule a special clay event for example: a birthday party, holiday party, family gathering, team-building event etc. We can agree with a project for the group depending on folks experience. You may also specify a specific project for that day and we can make it happen depending again on everyone's experience.
