Whimsy Watercolor Birdie

Hosted by Art & Soul Creative Retreats. This workshop will be located at:  Portland Sheraton Airport Hotel | 8235 NE Airport Way, Portland

I will start out by tracing a bird to create muscle memory. Next I will demonstrate drawing a bird freehand.  You may also trace a bird from my collection of birds I’ll be providing in class.

Once the drawing is complete, the process of painting begins. We will start from light to dark. I will demonstrate the relationship between the darker and lighter values which begin to communicate the form and texture of our bird. The goal is to get lost in the relaxing, fluid nature of watercolor painting…remember, we are painting a WHIMSY BIRD! Once we allow the base colors to dry, with a smaller brush, we will start to paint in the darker details on the wings, legs and eye.

Every student will leave with a finished Whimsy Bird on 140lb Watercolor Paper.

Students of every experience level are welcome!

Class Cost: $95 

Materials Fee $25 paid at beginning of class includes:

- 140lb Cold-press Watercolor paper - Transon 8 pcs Round Watercolor Paint Brush Set - Tracing paper - Mechanical Pencil - Eraser - Painting Palette **Shared art supplies including: Detail brushes & paper towels

Supplies Needed  to bring for Class:

- a couple of water containers, rags & apron. - Optional: Images of your favorite bird. I will be bringing bird images as well
